Spacer X Stories: IPB Portal

For the past 5 years I've used the current server company where I host 6times website. I use 2 different companies, one for business accounts and this one for more adult related material accounts. They've always allowed adult content. In 2010 they made some policy changes, one of it was removing adult content unless it is using a dedicated server. That means my costs for using the servers literally triples. Needless to say I've removed a couple folders that were causing them CPU overusage and got the account re-established.

I've been spending some time looking at various other web hosts. It looks like no matter where I go, I most likely going to be required to move to a Virtual Private Server. I have a few companies in mind, I've just been digging reviews and uptime logs to make sure we don't have any outages.

The current company that I use for hosting has been great. They have a 99.9% guaranteed uptime and they've always answered trouble tickets within 12 hours. So on the few times when we've had issues, I have been able to report it and have it resolved fairly quickly.

Will 6 Times a Day be moving to a new server?
6Times will be moving to a new server unfortunately. However this does not change the domain/URL for the website. In fact most of that happens behind the scenes so you probably won't even notice there was a change.

When will this move be happening?
It probably will not be happening for a few weeks so there shouldn't be anything to worry about. When it does happen there will be warning and the site will be up, but the forums will be offline. You'll still be able to access the stories, etc just not post on the forum. That is so when I move the forum and restore it in the new home, we don't have any lost posts.

Will I lose my forum ranking, post count, posts?
No. This isn't like when we had to reinstall everything. This is just a move, we have the original files to work with so we can just copy and move. All the data should be retained without having to spend days resetting back up all the stories, etc.

Where have you been Dark Severance, you seemed to vanish for awhile?
I had an accident which resulted in me being incapacitated for awhile. I've been going through physical therapy and that has been taking a lot of my time. I usually feel fine, until I'm done with therapy and then I feel horrible and have to take pain killers which knock me out. I also had to have an operation to remove a growth that was near my spinal area, there has been some damage which resulted in more down time. Overall I'm doing ok. But with me working full time and evenings doing therapy, that has left me with weekends available to work on the website.

Anyway, Dark Severance is the one who runs this site. I just provide the content, and I only know what he tells me. I asked him to post some kind of announcement here today, and I hope he does, because he's the one on top of what's going on. But until then, here's what I know, direct from recent emails from him.

So now you all know about as much as I do on this. I hope Dark Severance will post here soon and let us know what the latest is, and what he's planning to do. I gather that the URL is going to change soon, and the site will be moved somewhere else, maybe to another site Dark Severance owns. Or maybe we can keep the URL and get a new web host. Who knows. I just hope things will go smoothly without any more surprise shut downs.

Sorry about all the trouble, and please keep an eye on the blog if something like that happens again!

Good news! I just got an email from the sys admin Jason saying that he's pretty much fixed the problems with the old website, six.darksideofpassion.com. Apparently, whatever the big problem was is fixed, but there will still need to be some more work done to bring everything back. I just took a look at the main page there, and got an error message instead of the usual blank page. So that's progress, I hope!

To repeat what has been said elsewhere, once that site is fixed, this site will continue, and that one will be a mirror. One still has to re-register to post, but we should be able to recover all the lost posts.
